Through the help of some wonderful friends, and Raul's PT, Raul has been given a loaner power chair by Permobil. Permobil, along with the vendor, are working on getting him a more permanent chair (either new, or a donated demo chair), but for now, this is working great! Raul loves his chair! He is able to move it himself now, but has not mastered steering yet! Today he drove it over to the other building in our compound to pick up a package, and he actually did the straightaway by himself with me just walking next to him! I think it will take him a while to figure out steering, as we can't just explain it to him as you might with some kids, but he will get it! He cries every time he has to get out of his chair; he LOVES his new wheels!

Birthday (Part 2)
Well on Saturday, for my actual birthday, my dad took Raul and me to
IHOP for brunch. For dinner my parents, my sister, and her boyfriend
came over to our apartment and we had a dinner of lots of yummy homemade
appetizers. Raul liked having guests over, and was sad when they had to
leave. My mom stayed the night to take care of Raul so I could get a
good night of sleep. Raul gave me tickets to the Big Apple Circus for my
birthday, so we are looking forward to that!
Today in the mail came a present for Raul, that was donated from Kindred Kids. He got a new Rifton gait trainer!! It is dark blue, and the attachments are black. I put him in it quickly before his nap, and he seemed to like it. He didn't quite get that he was supposed to walk himself at first, so I helped him, but then he took a couple steps on his own!

Birthday (Part 1)
Tonight we started the celebrations for my 21st birthday (which is tomorrow)! My parents, grandparents, sister and her boyfriend, Raul, and I went out to dinner at my favorite Chinese restaurant. Then we had delicious cake, and Raul even ate a bunch of frosting! I stopped feeding it to him, and he picked up the spoon and started trying to feed himself! Raul was such a good boy. We were out for two hours, and he hadn't napped, yet he was well behaved and playful the whole meal. Tomorrow the celebrations continue!
