Raul's Digger

We went on a trip to the toy store today to get a wading pool for summer, and ended up getting a few more things, as well as playing with a lot of things! Raul loved their train table, and also all the ride on cars. It was too hot to do an outside adventure today, so we had fun playing in the toy store!

Raul got very excited when he saw their was a motorcycle, so we took it down for him to try

Then he REALLY needed the Escalade SUV ride on, but it was too heavy for us to get down

He came home with his choice of the smaller ride ones, which was a digger

Here he is kissing his new truck

Infusion Day

Raul had his fourth iron infusion yesterday (third in Boston). It was a long morning, and they had trouble getting an IV in, but luckily he does really well with it all! Unfortunately his levels still haven't come up, so we have another scheduled in two weeks. He was a sleepy boy this morning, but we still made it to the bus on time for school!

Shriner's

Raul has had some very deep wounds that I have been worried about (they haven't healed since birth), so we were scheduled for a joint dermatology and surgery appointment at Shriner's today. The derm. was a no show, but the surgeon was there. He started talking about all these areas he wanted to graft, but then realized Raul still smelled awful like bacteria, so they cultured all his main wounds. We aren't sure why his wounds are still so overcolonized, as he was just on antibiotics for over a month and we have been using silver dressings.
We will have an appointment in two weeks to discuss a plan. He said they would likely want to use his scalp as a donor site for the graft, but that it could risk alopecia in the area, so I am not thrilled about that. They would admit him the day before to start antibiotics. But we have to wait for the cultures to come back to see if grafts are even an option. Because of the bacteria and the risk of grafts failing, we discussed just trying his worst ankle first and seeing how it goes.

Antique Car Museum

Today we took Raul to an antique car museum. When we got there, it turned out that they were also having an outdoor car show. We made a circle through the cars outside, but it was too hot for Raul. Then we went inside and looked around. Unfortunately, it also didn't seem air conditioned inside, but Raul still liked seeing the cars! As you can see in the pictures, Raul didn't seem to think the rules and roped off areas applied to him. He even got an old toy dump truck from the gift shop, which made him very happy!
